Global Biotech Revolution (GBR) is a youth-led nonprofit organisation focused on inspiring and developing the next generation of leaders in biotech.

Founded in 2012 by two PhD students at the University of Cambridge, GBR remains entirely led by volunteers passionate about the future of the biotech industry and the impact young leaders can make. GBR proudly runs two flagship events, the GapSummit* and the Excellerator*, which gather 100 young leaders highly competitively selected from around the world alongside 60+ top industry leaders (CEOs, Nobel laureates, entrepreneurs, policymakers, etc.).

GapSummit is an annual volunteer-led, world-class biotechnology leadership summit which aims to highlight pressing challenges facing the bio-economy, and build bridges within and across generations of leaders to solve them. 2025 marks the 10 year anniversary of the GapSummit, with 800+ alumni from 125+ countries.

TOOL Founder & Chief Mermaid Birgit M. Liodden will provide a keynote at this summit, alongside other confirmed speakers as Dr Karen Nelson (Chief Scientific Officer at Thermo Fisher Scientific), Dr Hermann Hauser (Co-Founder and General Partner at Amadeus Capital Partners), Dr Matthias Evers (Chief Business Officer at Evotec), Dr Paul Burton (Chief Medical Officer at Amgen), Lubomila Jordanova (Chief Executive Officer at PlanA), and Nav Nagra (Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company).

The GapSummit programme includes panels, keynotes and workshops that center on core “gaps” to be addressed in future decades, as well as the ‘Voices of Tomorrow’ bio-entrepreneurship competition. At the conclusion of the conference, our attendees, or ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’, will acquire a holistic understanding of these challenges and have the mindsets, skillset, and networks needed to address them. Learn more about all aspects of the GapSummit below!

Leaders of Tomorrow

Leaders of Tomorrow are high-achieving, up-and-coming individuals who come from across the world and work in disciplines ranging from the biological sciences to business and policymaking. 100 Leaders of Tomorrow are selected through a rigorous selection process to attend the GapSummit, where they are challenged and empowered to develop into socially responsible and driven individuals who can ideate innovative solutions to today’s challenges.

GapSummit Competition

The GapSummit Competition is an entrepreneurial bio-innovation competition where Leaders of Tomorrow are organised into small teams to develop scientifically and economically feasible solutions to important challenges in the three months prior to GapSummit. During this time, teams are also given the opportunity to expand their horizons through virtual fireside chats and panel discussions and to develop their ideas with the help of experienced business mentors.

  2. That summit looks fantastic! Congratulations- Birgit M. Liodden I’ll definitely take a closer look. I’m currently mentoring at Nucleate, a student-led organization that supports a global community of bio-innovators helping students build biotech startups. I see some exciting potential for synergies here!
